Illegal Liquor Dens Busted in Gonda Following Public Complaint; Two Booked

Gonda: Acting on a complaint received during the District Magistrate’s public grievance hearing, the Gonda administration launched a major crackdown on illegal liquor manufacturing, leading to the demolition of two illicit distillation units and the registration of cases against two accused.

District Magistrate Priyanka Niranjan directed the City Magistrate to ensure prompt action on the complaint. Under the City Magistrate’s supervision, a joint team of the Excise Department and the police carried out an intensive raid in Khirabha village under Kotwali Nagar police station limits.

During the operation, officials discovered two illegal country liquor distillation units operating at separate locations. Both units were dismantled on the spot to curb unlawful liquor production. The team also seized around 40 litres of illicit country liquor and destroyed approximately 400 kilograms of fermented mash (lahan) used in the manufacturing process to prevent its further misuse.

Officials said FIRs have been registered against two individuals under the relevant provisions of the Uttar Pradesh Excise Act, and legal proceedings have been initiated. The administration reiterated that strict action would continue against anyone involved in the illegal manufacture, storage, transportation or sale of illicit liquor.

The district administration has appealed to residents to report any information related to illegal liquor production, sale or smuggling to the police or excise authorities so that timely action can be taken.

Officials said the joint enforcement drive against illicit liquor will continue across the district under the District Magistrate’s direction, with regular inspections and coordinated action by the Excise and Police departments to safeguard public health and maintain law and order.
